Mitocore FAQ

Quick answers to the questions visitors most often ask about Ortho Molecular Mitocore.

How is Mitocore tolerated in sensitive GI tracts?

With careful dose-timing, well — but the with-food instruction is non-negotiable for this population. The NAC and alpha-lipoic acid are the typical empty-stomach offenders. The practitioner review discusses GI-tolerance considerations.

What is the GI-aware dosing protocol?

Start at one capsule with the largest meal of the day for week one. Advance to two daily (one with breakfast, one with lunch) for week two. Advance to label dose by week three if tolerated. Skip days during GI-symptom flares rather than push through.

Does it affect bowel function?

Less than dedicated magnesium supplements but the formula does include modest magnesium and other minerals that can shift bowel patterns slightly. Patients with diarrhea-predominant IBS occasionally find the formula loosens stools further.

How does it interact with SIBO protocols?

Generally hold Mitocore during active SIBO antimicrobial treatment because added mineral and substrate load can complicate the protocol. Resume in the post-treatment maintenance phase.

What are the GI-relevant medication interactions?

NAC effects on chemotherapy (theoretical), warfarin, methotrexate, and nitroglycerin are the standard list. Patients on PPIs or H2 blockers may see slightly different absorption patterns of the mineral cofactors. Interaction documentation.

Is it safe during pregnancy or lactation in GI-sensitive patients?

Switch to a prenatal-specific formulation. Pregnancy-related GI changes (nausea, constipation, reflux) further complicate tolerance and warrant obstetric input.

Allergen profile for GI-sensitive patients?

Free of the major eight allergens. The hypromellose capsule is plant-derived (some patients react to gelatin capsules but not hypromellose). Sulfur sensitivity from the NAC is the residual flag.
